About Us
It all started in February 2008 when Susan Taylor & Elizabeth Wilkinson attended The Education Show at the NEC, Birmingham.
While attending a mini seminar they were told that each school, or cluster of small schools, would have one specialist SpLDs (Specific Learning Difficulties) teacher. Although this sounded like a good start they both saw this only as a first step in improving the provision for students with an SpLD. Unfortunately on further investigation it didn't seem like this was to be just a start. Asking several times "what was next?", they were buffeted and told that they "should be very pleased with one teacher per school!"
Susan, her daughter Elizabeth, and her grandson in turn, are all Dyslexic and very pro-active so put their anger at this response to use rather than moaning. The next day, faced with an education system that has failed dyslexics for too long, they decided to run a Dyslexia Information Day (DID).
The idea of the DID was to get all the services, organisations and companies that the family had come across, during the last decade of invlovlement in the education system, all under one roof so that dyslexics could find access to them quickly and not have to go through as much of the heart ache that they had to.
The first Dyslexia Information Day ran on the 24th of May 2008 at Ketley Community Centre in Telford, Shropshire - the area in which DID is based.
It was huge success, with over 130 people attending and a lot of positive feedback. With this level of success it was evident that the idea was not only a good one but important to people and that there would be more Dyslexia Information Days!
Now as an ongoing project the aims of DID remain the same, to provide a totally free event for people who are interested in Dyslexia to find out more. Whether you are a student, parent, teacher or employer and think you or someone you know could benefit from further information then hopefully you will benefit from attending.
Last Event
Our last event at the Ketley Community Centre was a huge success with over 100 visitors and a variety or stands.
